Our story
Books that see girls as they truly are
Little Shero Stories was born from a simple belief: every child deserves to see themselves as the hero of their own story.
A book imprint of
Gender Lens Australia
Where it all began
Little Shero Stories is a children's book imprint of Gender Lens Australia — a not-for-profit organisation dedicated to advancing gender equity through education, research, and storytelling.
We noticed a gap. Too many bookshelves were filled with stories where girls waited, watched, or played second fiddle. We wanted something different — books where girls lead, explore, fail, try again, and triumph on their own terms.
So we made them. Each title in our collection is carefully crafted to reflect the full range of who girls are: curious, brave, messy, tender, fierce, and everything in between.
What we stand for
Representation matters
Our books feature girls of all backgrounds, abilities, and personalities. We work with diverse authors and illustrators to ensure every child can find themselves on the page.
Stories, not sermons
We believe the best way to shift attitudes is through joy, not lectures. Our books are first and foremost great stories — funny, moving, and genuinely hard to put down.
Community over commerce
We're a not-for-profit imprint. Surplus revenue funds free book programs for schools and early childhood centres that need them most.
Evidence-informed
Every title is reviewed through a gender equity lens informed by Gender Lens Australia's research. We ask hard questions about the messages our stories send.
The organisation behind the books
Gender Lens Australia
Gender Lens Australia works across schools, communities, and policy to challenge gender stereotypes from the earliest age. Our research shows that children form gender attitudes before they can read — which is exactly why the stories we tell them matter so much.
Every book sold through Little Shero Stories directly supports Gender Lens Australia's programs, including free book donations to under-resourced schools and early childhood centres across Australia.
